Letter from the Principal

Mensaje del director

ventimiglia thumbDear John Jay Families,

It is such an honor and a privilege to be serving as the principal of John Jay Elementary! Eighteen years ago, I started my career as an ELD teacher in Washington, DC, and my students and their families sparked a desire in me to learn firsthand about their countries, cultures, and languages. Since then, I have been fortunate to traverse the globe as a teacher, instructional coach, specialist, and lifelong learner. I am so grateful for the knowledge built, experiences lived, and relationships formed from this work, and I am humbled to now be a part of the District 59 family – a stellar community committed to advancing equity of access and opportunities for all students.

Emily Morris is returning as assistant principal at Jay; she is starting her 16th year in the district, and thus, brings a wealth of historical knowledge to the team and expertise as a former dual language teacher and instructional coach.

All John Jay staff are incredibly supportive, collaborative, and dedicated to our students and families. We are a close-knit community who value making meaningful connections and building relationships. Our theme for this year is “Together we shine brighter” because we truly believe in creating an ecosystem of support that nourishes our students’ academic learning and social emotional development and our families’ access to resources and connectivity to the school community.

We thank you for your partnership because together we shine brighter, juntos brillamos más.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Ventimiglia
