Students Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at John Jay
On October 3, 2014, students and staff at John Jay Elementary participated in an assembly to celebrate positive behavior as part of their PBIS program.
The students were presented with the PBIS numbers from September during the assembly. Areas of growth were celebrated with students receiving their Star Awards in front of their classmates. Opportunities for growth were shared, with students pledging their commitment to working hard and making their numbers even better.
After the assembly, students participated in “Buddy Teams” (intermediate students paired up with primary students), working together and using their devices for research. They learned interesting facts, major accomplishments, and key contributions of important people of Hispanic heritage for Hispanic Heritage Month.
Mary Beth Niles, Principal of John Jay Elementary, said, “These kinds of activities help us to prepare students for success in the 21st Century. This focus provides students an opportunity to collaborate, communicate, think critically and create.”
